Frederick Propst had a son John born around 1770-75. He vanishes from Va. A John Propst marries a Margaret Naile in 1795 and they vanish from Va. I and others feel strongly that this John Propst is the John Propes who came to KY ca1820. John was illiterate. Documents in the Monroe Co. court house as early as 1826 show his mark(x). This is likely why the name spelling change.
